Create 3Ds with your camera

Microsoft has publicly released Photosynth, a way of combining conventional images to create 3D scenes. After you upload a set of images, the software analyzes each for similarities to the others, and then it uses this data to build a model of where the photos were taken. A viewer can then browse through the final photograph, navigating smoothly and zooming in tiny details.

Casio launches EX-Z300, EX-Z250 and EX-Z85

Casio has launched the 10.1MP EXILIM EX-Z300, 9.1MP EX-Z250 and EX-Z85. Both Z300 and Z520 have 3.0” LCDs and 4x (28mm - 112mm equiv) zoom lenses. Apart from Image Stabilization, Noise and Moiré reduction, these two cameras have features such as Makeup function, Multi-Motion Capture and an advanced Night mode. The EX-Z85, with a smaller 2.6” LCD and 3x (38 - 114mm equiv) zoom lens, has features such as Face Recognition, Auto Shutter and an Easy mode for beginners.

Canon grabs the AVCHD limelight with three new 24Mbps high definition camcorders
Today, Canon has unveiled three new AVCHD camcorders designed to take consumer HD recording to the next level thanks to data rate transfer speeds of 24Mbps, the maximum rate achievable within the AVCHD specification.

Three models benefit from the new improved data rates; the HF11 is now the company's AVCHD flagship and offers a choice of recording to 32GB internal flash memory or optional SDHC memory cards. The HG20 and HG21 follow up the award-winning HG10 with a choice of HDD (60GB on the HG20, 120GB on the HG21) and SDHC memory card recording respectively.

All three models have the facility to accept external microphone inputs and headphone outputs in addition to the full range of digital and analogue outputs.

Panasonic unveils SD100 and HS100 - world's first cams to use 3MOS sensors
After a false start exactly a month ago in which information was inadvertently released to the US market, Panasonic has now made it official - the world's first HD camcorders to use 3MOS technology are on their way in the form of the HDC-SD100 and the HDC-HS100 AVCHD camcorders.

European journalists were given a sneak preview of these models in Monaco during mid-July and SimplyDV was, of course, represented!

The Everio GZ-HD40 - JVC's best camcorder to date?
